The Search for Creativity

In the middle of the night I awaken with a sparkling idea that squeezes every ounce of sleep right out of me. For a few moments I lie unmoving, trying to convince myself that I’ll remember it in the morning if I drop off again now. The merciless wisdom of experience shakes me.

Inspiration can be a fickle…

…fleeting little thing who flutters through your dreams, splashes you in the shower and zooms right past you on the motor way; sometimes only just noticeable enough to grasp. I have learnt to whisk her to me when she shows, so I fumble for my pad which has slipped just out of reach. My tired eyes squint as the warm glow of my bedside lamp seems more like a cruel and hostile search light. Still, I feel that familiar, whole-body buzz that accompanies a good idea and begin to let a scrawled little stream flow onto the pages.

Oh, the bliss of night time inspiration!

Since then, a few weeks have passed and the gurgling stream has somewhat dried up in the heat of concentrated work on a new course, the next CD and what seem like thousands of other ‘incidentals’. Of course I’ve read all the books about how to be creative even when your head is on fire and the water’s freezing your feet in their wellies. I’ve heard many an inspiring tale of ‘real’ writers who manage to get up an hour earlier every morning and create wonderful works of art in less than a fortnight.

But, I ask myself…

…do these people have children to care for, houses to clean, gardens to tend and bills to pay? Do they have someone to share chores with and the most urgent question of all – how in heaven’s name do they do it?

What’s the trick to maintaining the creative flow, as well as navigating through the relentless mountain stream of life? How much faster do I have to swim to catch up with my raft?

And suddenly I remembered…

…from carefree childhood holidays – floating, being carried along, and ‘going with the flow’. Keeping still enough to allow the water to carry me. I could do that very well when I was young. Even the faster streams or the waves of the ocean I could ride without a board – just by knowing when to let go and where to concentrate. Sometimes only for a few short lengths, but never without the thrill and carefree joy of being washed along.

I hardly need to think much further to know that this is the answer to finding inspiration and maintaining my creative flow – and maybe yours too? Often, we make the mistake of thinking we need to work harder, faster and longer still. When it comes to creativity, it’s the child-like enthusiasm, the care-free yet single-minded concentration and the willingness to set our imagination free that does the trick.

So, how do we retain our productive flow amid the incessant hurdles of waiting tasks, ticking clocks and life’s responsibilities.

The dancers danced and the pianists played

The one thing all the great artists had in common was that they pampered their passions. If they enjoyed walking, they would do so for hours. The dancers danced, pianists played and gardeners planted. They knew of the importance of stepping out of the rat race and taking time to follow their bliss. They knew that this fuelled their creative fires and gave them the endurance to continue on when the stream turned into a trickle.

Enjoy the Thrill

So, I suggest you take inspiration from the Inspired Ones of the past and give yourself some good quality, guilt-free time out to do what will give you energy, motivation and focus. Then enjoy the thrill of going with that creative flow again.

Let This Sink In And Feel Good about Yourself

Read this short story think about it and then decide which mindset you wish to adopt and which will bring you the success you desire.

John is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood And always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, “If I were any better, I would be twins!”

He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, John was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation. Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up and asked him, “I don’t get it! You can’t be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?” He replied, “Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or … you can choose to be in a bad mood I choose to be in a good mood.” Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or…I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or… I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life. “Yeah, right, it’s not that easy,” I protested. “Yes, it is,” he said. “Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It’s your choice how you live your life.” I reflected on what he said. Soon hereafter, I left the Tower building Industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it. Several years later, I heard that he was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, he was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back. I saw him about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins…Wanna see my scars?” I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place. “The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon-to-be born daughter,” he replied. “Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or…I could choose to die. I chose to live.” “Weren’t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?” I asked. He continued, “..the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read ‘he’s a dead man’. I knew I needed to take action.”

“What did you do?” I asked. “Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me,” said John. “She asked if I was allergic to anything. ‘Yes, I replied.’ The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Gravity’.” Over their laughter, I told them, “I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.” He lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude… I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything .

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

After all today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. You have two choices now: 1. Disregard this. 2. Pay head and succeed.

You know the choice I made.

About Creating a New Life

1. Where do I start to create a new life?

There is only one place to start, and this is by taking time out of your busy day, and truly looking into your heart, because this is where all of your answers can be found.

Ask yourself what truly matters to you, and what your natural talents, strengths and abilities are. There is no reason to become an accountant when you are not naturally in love with the process of mathematics and accounting. Likewise, if you are passionate about a certain area, and have a natural ability in this area, this can be a good indication as to a part of your life purpose.

Many people have multi-faceted lives, such as being an author, public speaker, spiritual teacher, and publisher. Some people can love to bring others together for a common purpose and have great organizational skills, while they are naturally gifted with music. Such people can do both – create a team of people that can bring great benefit to others, and record wonderful music for others to enjoy.

There is no right or wrong with respect to your life purpose. There is no direction you “must” go in, unless you are absolutely passionate about it in your heart. This will bring you, and others, the most joy as a result of the new direction you move in.

2. How do I know which direction to go in?

Ask yourself if you had twelve million dollars in the bank, and you already owned every thing you have ever wanted to own, if you would do what you are about to do for FREE because you would love it that much. This is the greatest indication that you are moving in the direction of what you came into this life for, and moving with the current of your natural talents and abilities.

3. Why does it take so long and how do I know when it is meant to be what I am here to do?

Any worthwhile process takes time so that you can learn and grow during the process, while you share your gifts with others as you go along. That is why it is called a “life purpose” and not a “week purpose.”

You will know when you are doing what you came into this life to do when it is not about a “goal” anymore, but rather the love of the daily, moment-by-moment process of it all. You will not be worried about the future because you will be passionately absorbed in your daily joy (work) of it all.

Can you imagine saying: Thank God It’s Monday! as opposed to “Thank God it’s Friday.”? THAT is when you know you are in love with what you are doing with your life, and you would be EXCITED to even spend a Sunday (as I am right now) creating what you love, from your heart, for the sheer joy of how your creation can make a genuine difference in this world, stemming from your heart, and how it can benefit others, rather than look for a “payback” as a result of what you are doing.

4. What do I do when people call me a “dreamer” and tell me to “get a real job”?

You can simply say: “Thank you for letting me know your perspective” and then CONTINUE with what is true for YOU in your heart! There is no greater loss in life than losing your passion for what you do with each of your precious days, selling your soul for the dollar, when you are not absolutely in love with your own unique contribution, and how it can make a difference in this world.

I will share a short story with you that is true. A man named Henry worked for a company and made a lot of money. He wanted to leave his well-paying job to create a company of his own. Henry’s father told him he was crazy to give up that job, and the amount of money he was making to pursue his “dream.” Henry did NOT listen to his father. He did leave the company he worked for and started FORD MOTOR COMPANY. It was HENRY FORD that left a high paying job to move in the direction of his heart and dreams, despite his father calling him a “dreamer” and telling him he was crazy. Follow your HEART, and your TRUTH, and you will NEVER go wrong!

5. What if I change my mind? Can I switch direction?

Absolutely! I did many times. I owned a yellow pages, I was a professional TV and feature film actress, I was beginning an internship with CNN as a broadcast journalist, and THEN I found my true path. However, each path truly helped me gain the wisdom and experience I use today for publishing, public speaking, writing, being in the public eye, promotion, and reaching people. Nothing was wasted. I use all I have learned, and one path and life experience naturally led me to the next. This is most common! Being a “success” is lived from the inside out, NOT the outside in. Your HEART will let you know when to move from one experience to the next. Or you can continue to grow in the same area, and add different aspects to it as you go along. There is no “right” or “wrong”, there is only what is true for you.

6. How can I be sure that the path I choose is really right for me?

ALWAYS base it by how you feel. If you feel JOY, then you are on the right path. If you wake up wishing it was the weekend, and that you didn’t have to do what you are about to do, then that is a great indication that what you are doing needs to be changed to what will bring you JOY when you think about it. It’s okay to take a break, and go for a walk, or play with your children, or do something else that brings you relaxation, however, your life purpose, and creating a new life must be filled with EXCITEMENT, and then you will know with absolute certainty that you are on the right path.

7. How can I stop myself from becoming upset if things don’t go the way I want them to?

I learned a long time ago that delays are ALWAYS beneficial. There was a time when I was publishing my first book, and I was quite upset because I didn’t have the money to pay the printer. Someone then read the book, and let me know that although it was a great book, it needed to be professionally edited for perfect grammatical structure. If I DID have the money to pay the printer, the book would have been a complete waste. My Editor made many grammatical corrections, and the book was then printed and published properly. So always trust that there is a Higher reason for delays, and look for the gift in the situation. Ask what the gift could be, and for Divine guidance as to the best course of action or non-action to take. Sometimes timing is everything. So trust in the Divine timing of this Universe, and go with the flow. Say “YES” to what the universe is showing you, and you will be surprised at how it will then all fall into place.

8. How can I stop living my life from the outside in, and feeling like I’m always climbing uphill?

There has to be at least ONE cause, or something that you really love to do from the inside out. It doesn’t have to be a “save the world” cause. It can be that you really love to bake! Or you really love children, and want to help them in some manner. You might really love designing, and want to be a clothing designer. No one on this planet can be YOU. Your purpose may be similar to some other people, however, no one can express him or herself exactly they same way you can. If you are living the way society judges people, from the outside in, THAT is when you are climbing uphill – always trying to keep up, and after a while, it becomes empty, meaningless, and like a bottomless pit that you are always trying to fill.

Start by living what matters to you in your heart. Really ask yourself if material accumulation is why you are on this Earth? Ask yourself how you would want to be remembered after you have passed on from this life, and what difference you would have liked to have made from the years you have spent in this life.

I can tell you that there is no greater joy than making a difference for others. There is nothing that means as much, and that carries such genuine bliss. This is when you will know that you are living your life from your heart – your heart will be in everything that you do – for the benefit of others, and that is what makes for a life worth living, and a person for being remembered. YOU are that person. How do you want to be remembered? Start now to move in that direction: “not by doing more, but by being more!”

Playing Flush Draws

Flush draws are some of the strongest draws you can have on the flop in Texas Holdem. They can result in winning you big pots. When you flop a flush draw in Limit Texas Holdem, it’s either going to be on a two-suited or three-suited flop.

Some may argue this point, but I would tell you to play them differently depending on what situation you are.

For example, if you are faced with a raise when you have a flush draw. The odds are not in your favor to hit the flush. So you need to calculate pot odds. Since there are 13 cards of each suit you will always have nine outs to make your flush when you have flopped a flush draw. This is approximately 2-1 (35%) against improving by the river. Your hand is stronger if you have additional draws like a pair, a straight draw, overcards and so forth.

When you flop a flush draw on a two-suited flop, you are almost always getting good pot odds to draw to the flush. When pot odds are in your favor, it’s pretty much an automatic call unless you’re low on chips, and this would make you pot committed. If that’s the case, don’t call. Either fold or go all in. You have to decide if this is the hand to gamble.

There are, however, a few exceptions:

*-Heads-up in an unraised pot and all you have is the flush draw. This might be a good spot to semi-bluff, but don’t check-call to the river.

*-If the flop comes with a pair and there is heavy action on the flop. Someone is likely to hold trips and you might lose to a full house even if you hit your flush.

*-You flop a small flush draw and there is heavy action on the flop. You might be drawing dead to a bigger flush draw. This is one of the reasons why the small-suited connectors are preferably played in late position.

When pot odds are not in your favor, don’t automatically fold. Consider the implied pot odds, which take into account future actions of remaining players. If there are a lot of players in the hand, and the majority will go after you by calling, you’re increasing their pot odds which means they’ll be more motivated to call themselves. At the end of the betting round, when you have added a few more callers to the pot value, perhaps your poker pot odds turn out favorab

Six Simple Tips for Creating Job Security Now (And Opportunity for Later)

Six Simple Tips for Creating Job Security Now (And Opportunities
for Later) – By Frank F. Lunn

Whether you’re seeking a new job or climbing the corporate
ladder, you are in charge of your future in the workplace.
Consider the following six tips to start creating job security
for today and opportunities for tomorrow:

1. Start with the right attitude. Don’t view your job as just a
“job.” Think of it as a “position.” Your frame of mind should
be, “This position can lead to a higher position.” Think of it
as a business with your employer as your client.

2. Do more than what is expected of you. Go above and beyond
your regular duties and responsibilities. Doing more will
increase your visibility within the company and will enable you
to encounter more challenges. Think outside the traditional
lines. Look at daily processes for ways to cut costs, save money
or improve effectiveness. For example, if your department sends
out frequent mailings, look into a bulk mail account and present
your findings to your manager. Promise what is expected, but
deliver more.

3. Continuously expand your knowledge. Stay up-to-date on the
major topics and issues in your industry, whether through
self-study or night classes. Companies are often willing to pay
all or a portion of the costs for classes–take advantage of it!
A quick fix could be signing up for a free weekly industry
e-zine and reading it. Grab the fresh ideas and upcoming trends,
and bring them up for discussion in your next meeting. Prepare
yourself for the position you aspire to have.

4. Assess your accomplishments. An excellent strategy is to
develop a personal career portfolio or “brag book.” Neatly
compile records of all work-related achievements, samples of
exceptional work, letters of recognition and other documents
that demonstrate good job performance. Bring this little gem to
the table at each review to help demonstrate your value to the
company. Demonstrate how yesterday’s accomplishments translate
into future victories for the company.

5. Remember to network. Others have a great amount of power in
helping you move up the ladder. Learn about all the departments
and their goals and what they are doing to reach their goals.
Act as if you fit the part of the position you want, and you
might be pleasantly surprised at the results. Who can’t make a
little conversation at the coffee maker?

6. Be proactive. Use the performance review process as a time to
ask your boss about your future with the organization. Let your
supervisor know that you are interested in progressing and
learning more. Think optimistically and be proactive about
looking for new career opportunities in the company. Your
approach just might set you apart from the crowd.

You are the only one who has control over your job security and
your career. You could let the waves of opportunity in the
workplace roll over you, or you could realize that you create
your opportunities through your own actions and attitude. It’s
your choice.

Create Unlimited Wealth with One Simple Secret!

There is but one secret that will create unlimited wealth in your life. It may shock you when you find out how simple it really is.

All of the giants of industry and business knew the secret to create unlimited wealth. The secret is the easy part, what you have to do once you know the secret is what is tough. Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, and Bill Gates all understood the secret and were willing to apply it to amass fortunes.

Are you?

The super wealthy, the ones that earned it, did so because they had an IDEA! Then they acted upon that idea with ferocity and perseverance. You see all accumulated wealth from being successful in business starts with an idea. For Henry Ford it was supplying America with affordable cars. Bill Gates envisioned the future of the personal computer as a mainstay in all households.

Create Unlimited Wealth by:

1. Have an Idea! 2. Develop a Plan. 3. Pursue that Plan Relentlessly. 4. Don’t Accept Failure! 5. If that Plan Doesn’t Work – Change It!

It Starts with an Idea – Every great business success started as an idea in someone’s head. The people that have the courage to act upon those ideas are the people that become wealthy and successful. However, it takes more than an idea; I wish it were that simple! You must surround yourself with people that share your vision and can compliment your talents. Remember, you don’t know everything and the smart person does not have all the answers but they know where to find them.

Develop a Plan – Take your idea and put it on paper. Share it with the people in your think tank, get their input. Only talk to those in your think tank, these are the people you trust. Make them a part of the plan but keep all parts of the plan and idea secret until you have to let it out. You may talk to the wrong person and they beat you to the punch and get your idea to the market place before you. Another reason to keep your idea and plan under raps is to keep people from telling you why it CAN’T be done. Anything is possible!

Get the plan in place with the help of your think tank (possible business partners). Your plan should include things like: access to capital, business proposals, marketing strategies, and production strategies. Now that you have a plan then it is time to act on it.

Pursue Your Plan Relentlessly – Most successful business people after developing their plan act on implementing it. You must not be timid, if you know what you want go after it with a relentless pursuit. This is where you see the wheels start to fall off with most unsuccessful business attempts. They become passive when implementing their plan. If they hit a few stumbling blocks they begin to loose confidence and become indecisive. You must pursue your dreams of wealth and business with passion!

Don’t Accept Failure – Failure simply means that you have not succeeded, YET! This ties in closely with the above point in the sense that most business failures have come because:

1. People did not plan well, 2. Because they gave up to soon.

In the great book Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill, he discovered that the wealthy and successful people he had studied in the book all had reached their greatest success only because they had the courage to continue on after each failure. Mr. Hill became aware that almost everyone he had studied for that book had reached their greatest success after they had pulled through their greatest hardship.

Just remember that Failure is Not an Option.

If That Plan Doesn’t Work – Change It – Plans are all works in progress and they are meant to be updated and tweaked. Rather than quitting if your plan does not work, change it. Study the old plan, learn why it did not work and make the necessary changes. If you must change it a hundred times until you find the right plan.

Creating unlimited wealth and success is not just for the chosen few or the lucky. It is for everyone that has the courage to get that idea out of their head and into action. You must be willing to pursue your dream relentlessly, be decisive, and not be willing to accept failure. Great wealth and success is more about making up your mind and seeing yourself as if you already are wealthy and successful, than it is about chance and luck.

Use this outline and create unlimited wealth for yourself! Earl Nightingale once said, “You become what you think about”. If all you think about is the reasons why you can’t be wealthy and successful then not being wealthy and unsuccessful is all you ever will be. Quit waiting for chance, winners make their own chances. Get that idea out of your head and turn it into wealth.

Friendship is not a Product

We use products for as long as we need them, or when we tire of them. However, friendship is not like a product to be used when you need it. Never take friendship for granted; you never know what tomorrow holds.

Websters dictionary defines friendship as follows, “friendship: 1. initmacy; fellowship; close attachment. 2. Alliance; good will, amity”.

To be a friend means that you are willing to give yourself not only through the good times, but also during the bad times. To quote a Turkish Proverb, “A wise man remembers his friends at all times; a fool, only when he has need of them.”

To be a friend means encourage strengths in others and accepting their weaknesses; in other words, accepting them for who they are. Elbert Hubbard summarizes a true friend well when he said, “The friend is the man who knows all about you, and still likes you.”

Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart”. Does your friendship leave a footprint in others hearts?

In the end, to be a friend means giving freely and not expecting anything in return.

What is your definition of a friend? Do you live up to your own definition with your friends?

Making Decisions

You lost your job. Your partner left you. Your car was re-possessed. You find your life barren like the desert.

Your self-esteem plunged. You don’t think you are good enough for anything.

You will never find another job because you lack the education and the skills required. You are too old to try again. And who would want you now? The most “handsome, tall dark and charming man” has deserted you and you will never find another as charming as him.

These are common thoughts when you are met with adversity. At this point of your life you usually will not be able to see beyond what you are facing.

How can you think right when you are hungry? All you need is food to eat and a place to stay and call it a night. Your goal for the moment is to feed your stomach.

What can you do?

You can do something. All is not lost.

You can decide to tell yourself that “this too shall pass”. You can decide that you will start all over again.

You can take any job for the moment to give you a paycheck. And from there work yourself up again.

Read inspirational and motivational books instead of wallowing in self-pity. Better than using the time watching soap operas or reality shows. The books are available from the library and you can read them for free. If you think that there is no way to turn your life around-read “Man’s search for meaning” by Victor Frankl. It may help you look at your life at a different perspective. Or you can read the book by W Mitchell. You’ll be inspired.

Listen to motivational recording. If that is the only one you have…just keep listening to it.

Start writing your goals. Make a list of what you can do today and the next day and the next.

Set out your intentions. It’s one step at a time and you have to keep on trying many times and different ways until you get what you want.

Have a talk with yourself. Write your feelings and thoughts in a journal. Sit down alone and contemplate.

Go for a walk. Practice deep breathing.

You and only you decide what you want to think. No one knows what’s going on inside your head. You can rewind and replay your failures or you can record and replay new positive ones.

People can say things about you. You decide what you want to listen to. You decide what you want to keep. You decide what you want to say to yourself.

Sometimes you think that there is no way out. How do you know you have tried everything? Did you write them down? How many ways were there…1, 2 or 20?

If you still have your complete physical self and a sound mind, there is no reason why you cannot start all over. Unless…you do not want to.

Or maybe what you are really crying out for is the familiarity. It’s too scary out there. You have been comfortable all this while. Now you have no choice but to change or rot. And you do not want to rot. At the same time you are so fearful. You have to decide. And the decision is yours.

This is the opportunity for you to challenge yourself. You have to help yourself to grow. You have to develop the attitude that if you work hard you can have a better life. No one is going to help you unless you help yourself first.
