3 UK Upgrades Network, Maintains Honesty about Network Speeds

In the intense competitive scenario of the mobile broadband market, most companies are claiming to roll out the fastest and never-before-experienced wireless broadband speeds. However, 3 UK has decided to stay down to earth and has accepted that the projected upgrade speeds for its network are nothing but technical standards. The company has openly admitted that real speeds will be lower than the advertised technical markers.

The company spoke to the media about its planned upgrade from the current speed of ‘up to’ 3.6Mbps to 7.2Mbps. It has disclosed that the process of upgrade was 40% complete, but was also quick to point out that not all customers will be able to benefit from the upgrade. It has said the advantages of its new 7.2Mbps network will only reach customers in areas with good coverage. Also, faster dongles will be required for proper access through the new network (click for dongle broadband information).

3 has also been frank about the aims of the upgrade. It has said the focus of the recent upgrade is broadening of the customer base with consistent speeds of 1 to 2Mb, instead of increasing the overall speed of the network.

The attitude of 3 towards product promotion seems to be more sensible and positive than the promotion strategy of its competitors. Mobile broadband companies often advertise misleading broadband speeds that are not only unachievable but also leave the customers largely dissatisfied. Turning away from all such fraudulent claims, 3 has said its objective is to get more people to access broadband, check mails and browse the net from homes and offices. The company has unambiguously stated that its network will not support applications requiring high bandwidth or data speeds.
