Squash: Under-19 Tourney Begins in Greater Noida
The national level squash tournament for players under the age of 19 has officially begun at the Jaypee Integreated Sports Complete at Jaypee Greens in Greater Noida, India.
More than 155 players have signed up for this prestigious tournament that guarantees ranking points for the victors. These ranking points are important in terms of acquiring qualifications in international competitions. This is considered one of the biggest sporting events for teens in India this year.
Squash is gaining popularity in India which can be evidenced with the appearance of more than 155 players. The active rating system will be set in place in the tournament. This means that whoever wins in their respective categories will certainly move up the national rankings. This will increase the chances of the victors to become part of the national squash team.
There will be a total of 303 matches to be played in the tournament. Aside from the under-19 events, there will be events specifically for players under the age group of 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17.
The organizer of this prestigious event is none other than the District Gautam Budhnagar Squash Racquets Association (GBNSRA). GBNSRA is the apex body of squash in Noida, an affiliate of Uttar Pradesh Squash Racquets Association (UPSRA).
The winners of this tournament will be determined later this week.
