New File Format, MusicDNA, Set to Provide More Info about Songs
Created by the Norwegian developer who backed the mp3 player that was invented by a German researcher, MusicDNA is a new music file format which can carry a great deal of information about a song.
This new file type can carry up to 32GB of extra information. Besides the song itself, all this extra information can be easily updated anytime. Hence an avid listener can get not only the lyrics and videos of the song, he/she could also obtain details of the singer, the year the song was recorded and lots of other relevant information about the music file.
At a music conference, Dagfinn Bach, MusicDNA’s creator said that the file which could carry up to 32 GB of additional information was “extremely searchable” and “dynamically updatable”.
MusicDNA’s initial launch will take place in spring this year, but the full roll out will happen only at the end of summer. Its main rival will be Apple’s iTunes LP which also carries a lot of extra information along with the music file. Though neither format has the backing of any major label, Apple is now a major player in the industry and MusicDNA will certainly need time and support to become widely accepted.
