Leading up to Your Mommy Makeover
How To Prepare for a Mommy Makeover
Final Inches has performed over a thousand mommy makeovers and we’ve answered this question at least 10,000 times.
The hard part is that everyones idea of a “mommy makeover” ends up being slightly different, but there are some general guidelines every patient should be following.
First and foremost, you should always try and abide by the standard pre-operative regime your doctor gives you.
- Stop smoking at least a month before your procedure. Smoking can cause complications. Smoking constricts the blood vessels reducing the amount of oxygen delivery to your cells. Lack of oxygen rich blood flow diminishes your body’s ability to heal and causes scars to mend poorly.
- Avoid alcohol consumption.
- Wean off your caffeine consumption.
- Avoid NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc), fish oil tabs, vitamin and mineral supplements and any other medications that may lead to blood thinning.
Additionally, it is a good idea to try to get as close as you can to your desired BMI. This number is easily calculated based on your height and weight.
In the time leading up to your procedure try to maintain a balanced diet and a regular exercise program. Remember that regular exercise can be walking around the neighborhood after dinner, it doesn’t have to be 3 hours of zumba.
Lastly, consult with your physician and complete your requisite pre-operative work-up ( labs, ECG, medical clearance, etc) in order to minimize any peri-operative risks.
Women preparing for a mommy makeover should also try to arrange to have help after the surgery, especially if you have small children. Usually a week of extra assistance is greatly appreciated. Husbands can extra points when they chip in extra mommy duties during the recovery period. Doing too much too soon can derail a successful surgery, or just make recovery more difficult.
