Social Media Marketing: How it Can Help Your Business

Internet marketing has really evolved in the last 10 years. If you’ve been on the scene for more than a few years you’ll have seen the advent and growth of chat rooms, forums, social sites and more recently social bookmarking sites and blogs. You’ll have also noticed the increased buzz generated by these sites.

These social spaces have evolved into highly user friendly and easy to access portals and fast moving communities where friends, colleagues and people with common interests, goals and objectives meet. Through social networking you can get to know others, share ideas, gather information and come together around ongoing conversations. Add social media marketing (internet marketing combined with social networking) into the mix – and you can make some serious money.

Leveraging social sites through a marketing campaign allows you to grow your online business and inform and influence your target market.

Targeted traffic is the key to successful internet marketing. Because social spaces provide an opportunity to become popular within a small niche community a successful campaign will connect with your target audience. Your efforts can therefore be extremely profitable.

The costs of social media marketing are low because it leverages your influence in a community that is free to join. This influence always converts well if you can drive your network to your offer. We’re talking about using marketing to connect your product or service with relevant niche conversations and social networking communities. Social media marketing profitability then becomes the measure of your success and a magnet for influence and credibility.

Expedia Becomes Egencia

Expedia Corporate Travel is no more. Travelers out for the popular travel management company’s services should now look for something that goes by Egencia.

This name change is Expedia Corporate Travel’s way of setting itself apart from its parent company, Expedia Inc., whose brands are more leisure-oriented.

Such moves have already been vindicated; ever since Expedia introduced its convenient self-booking platform in 2003, the company has stamped superlative cachet in the travel industry.

At present, part of Egencia’s rebranding program is the installation of new tools on its website. Integrated into their site now is SeatGuru. Basically an interactive, color-coded airplane seating chart, SeatGuru shows the best seats of more than 40 air carriers and over 275 airplanes. Another tool, Hotel Reviews, lets users generate feedbacks, commentaries and other content.

For good measure, city guides were added too in the form of the proprietary TripAdvisor City Guides. A ticket performance report tool is in the offing, so that unused ticket inventories are better tracked.

To complete its rebranding program, Egencia is acquiring Synergi Global Travel Management, a travel management firm based in Mississauga, Ontario.

With newfound renown, any company should only want a distinctive brand sooner or later. However, actions like this always fuel talks of secession so it should always be contemplated on extensively.
